Emily is at the right age to learn something new. In the past I loaded her up with beads and we've made jewelry together. Now Grandpa and I bought her a small sewing machine and took a bunch of material with us so I could teach her to sew. She made a simple elastic waist skirt and is thrilled that she's learning to sew. She is starting out on a very simple, small machine that only does a straight stitch but it's a great way to learn.
Here she is concentrating on her sewing and in the new skirt she made. She didn't hem the skirt so it would fray and make fringe when it's washed.
In the mean time I have a new project. Last summer I made a belly dance costume for Emily and her cousin Austin says she needs one too. Of course I couldn't say no. Here's a very poor (cell phone) picture of Emily in her costume.
